Hanson At His Wedding

23 May

Hanson At His Wedding

A few months ago I have learned about this guy from the UK named Bishop, who posted videos on youtube asking the American band Hanson to play on his wedding day on July 28 of this year. He started doing the video pleas a year ago (Feb 2011 I think) with his friend because he wanted to surprise his wife-to-be on their big day since she, actually both of them are fans of the band. Yeah, why not? Your favorite band playing on your wedding day? That would be wickedly awesome!  So he started his blog, posting videos everyday trying to persuade (beg) Hanson to play at his wedding. Yeah, like Every Single Day!

And what was Hanson’s response?

Nada. Nothing. Zip. None.

But still Bishop was persistent and very dedicated so he went on with his goal to make his bride happy by posting more videos. Then after more than a year, just 4 days ago to be exact, he posted his 457th video. He was gutted. Hanson hasn’t responded to him yet but he learned that Hanson booked a gig on his wedding day.  Sad day. 😦

After watching the video, I also felt sad.  I felt like I was also part of it  that I was also feeling devastated to learn that it will be impossible for Hanson to play on his wedding. I was gutted too.

But then despite that, he still went on creating videos and even said that he will complete the 529 vids he ought to make until his wedding day. He thanked the band and said that he’ll still help promote their music.

Well I thought even though Hanson cannot make it on their grand day, maybe they will do something for them, perhaps make a video surprise for the couple or something. Actually, I was sure Hanson will do something for them. And I was right.

Hanson At His Honeymoon

Just yesterday Hanson posted this on their official youtube channel as a response to Bishop’s pleas:

Yes, Hanson may not be there on his wedding day but the trio asked him if he would be willing to let them play on their honeymoon instead! Wow! Just Wow. Hanson on His Honeymoon instead! Well, 2nd honeymoon as Hanson mentioned on the vid because it would be “creepy” if it’s on their real honeymoon. 😛

Hanson explained that they already have a commitment that day and that they don’t do weddings actually, except their own. But they went on to say that they admire Bishop’s dedication so as a gift to the couple instead, they’re flying them to Jamaica for Hanson’s Back to the Island party in January 2013, all-expense-paid by the band! Whoa! Now that is an incredible gift!

As soon as Bishop watched Hanson’s proposition, he immediately replied:

For the avoidance of doubt, my answer is unequivocally yes and thank you!”

And he posted this video,  all smiles! Look at the happiness in his eyes.

I am just happy for Bishop and his bride-to-be. Even though I didn’t really follow his everyday video pleas, like I said earlier, I felt like I am part of it, so after I watched his video above, I felt so happy. I could feel his happiness. 🙂

Well you guys know that Hanson is one of the two bands I love in my whole life (Jars of Clay is the other one) and stories like his just makes me feel proud that I am their fan. Like one youtube commenter says:

“And people still ask why we love Hanson.”

Well obviously, this is one of the reasons.

The Wife of Noble Character

13 May

“[Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character] A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her:”

Admiring My Mother (re-blogged for Mom’s Day!)

12 May

*This is actually a post I made one year ago and I wrote it as a birthday gift for my mom last year.  And since on Sunday it is mother’s day, I thought I’d re-blog it as a tribute to my admirable mother. I changed a few words though so it would fit to the Mother’s day occasion.  You may read the original here: “Admiring My Mother.”

Happy Mother’s Day!

I admire my Mother. She got a pretty tough job.  She may not have to address the problems of poverty like the president have to, but her ‘job’ is tough.  Maybe even one of the toughest in the world. Imagine being a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a daughter, a sister, a Church Pastor to 9 churches with at least 200 or more members each, a leader, a government consultant, a counselor, and a friend to some. And all these, rolled into one.

What I specifically admire about my mother is that she’s the same person she is inside and outside our house.  Meaning to say, she doesn’t pretend or have a multiple personalities. The compassionate, patient, understanding, helpful, kind-hearted person she is outside or in the church is the same person she is to us inside our home. And I think that is  one of the traits of a true leader.

Growing up, I see how my mother shown these traits. I remember us being in the bus ride to Manila from Lipa, and on our way there was this young woman with her little brother, moaning for a severe stomach pain. Her motherly instinct kicked in. She wasn’t selfish to think that she got 3 young kids to look after to (I think my youngest sister was barely 4 years old that time) and let another person help. But she was quick to extend a hand, prayed for her and even took her to the hospital as soon as we got off the bus. She also began charity at home. Even though she is already married and have kids to support to, she, together with my father, helped her sisters and brothers fund their studies. She didn’t cease in helping them, even until now that they have their own families.

She is patient. Very patient. It will take time for her to get angry. And when she does, please hide, you wouldn’t like it. 😀 I think it’s true that when a patient person loses his/her temper, it’s going be like  World War II. I’ve seen her pissed off. And unfortunately, it was because of me. Well, sometimes because of my sisters too. 😛 You don’t want to see her mad for sure. So you better not test her patience. Like any normal person she also gets angry, whether you believe it or not. 🙂

She is super nice and super kind. And “super” is not even the right word to perfectly describe how nice and kind she is. Serving the church as the Pastor, she has encountered countless problems, both personal and church-related. People come to her for advices, sometimes even for financial help, then there are some who questioned her ways, pressured her for something, sometimes to take their sides over someone’s or influence her decisions. But she won’t let it. She won’t give in. Instead, she prays for them and asks them to pray for those who hurt them. Sometimes, when the attack to her is personal (and sometimes even below the belt), it angers me, my sisters and father, but not her. She always reminds us to be gentle, to just pray for those who hurt us and just speak blessing to them instead.  Sure, her helpfulness, kindness and patience have influenced us, but I don’t think I inherited it 100%. I am not as patient and kind as she is. Sometimes I complain to her for being super nice. If it was me, I would get even! Hahahaha…. Just kidding. 😛

She’s forgiving. Like I mentioned, she just pray for those who hurt her. She didn’t grow up in a well-off family, but she strove hard to succeed. And that means, working at her Auntie’s restaurant while studying in high school at around age 13 I think. She wakes up early in the morning to go to the market, go home and help serve and prepare the customers’ orders, then go to school (and because of that, she’s late to school most of the time) and then go home in the afternoon, help her Auntie again, do her homework after and sleep late. That was her routine everyday for at least 4 years.  She wasn’t treated well by their family too but she didn’t have any bitterness in her heart. I cried when I first heard  that story. I felt sad and furious to hear what she had to go through. But she was quick to tell us how grateful she is to her Auntie’s family because she was able to continue her studies and help her mother and siblings get out of poverty. For her, it was her stepping stone to success.

I know I hurt her also so many times in the past for being somewhat rebellious and so my sisters and my father but she didn’t quit on us, but instead she forgives us for our shortcomings and imperfections.

I could list a lot of things about how admirable my mother is. She is not perfect but I think she possesses the Christ-like character and that’s what makes her truly admirable.

On Sunday, it is Mother’s day and I couldn’t think of a better gift to my own mom but to put into writing what kind of a person she is – a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, a patient Church Pastor, a humble servant and a true Christian.

Happy Mother’s Day Mama!

And to my oldest sister too and to all moms in the world! You are guys are awesome! 🙂

Mentos Moment

3 May

Today I will treat myself to some nice pair of shoes. Gosh! I just had a “mentos moment” this morning. What mentos moment you asked? Watch this Mentos Commercial from the 90’s:

Yes, that happened to me this morning, well except that it didn’t happen in some park/coffee shop and I did not eat mentos, and there was no psycho-looking dude staring at me (Thank God!). LOL.

Well, I wanted to get to work early today so I can leave early too and not get stuck in a terrible traffic later. So I asked my dad to take me to the mall’s terminal near our house because that’s where I am taking a ride to work. And just as I stepped out of the car and walked (almost running) towards the terminal, my stiletto heel got stuck between the two bricks in the pavement. I pulled it out and continued walking not minding if the heel was intact but gosh, the heel got stuck there. It was broken. LOL. It was really embarrassing. I was limping while walking.

I don’t know how many people saw what happened but imagine, it was near the parking lot and an intersection and there were cars stuck in the traffic, waiting for the lights to turn green. LOL.

I walked towards to parking space, and tried ringing my dad but his phone was turned off. I knew he was still around the area so I figured he’ll take a U-turn, so I thought I should just go to the other street where he probably would pass. This time I wasn’t limping… I was tiptoeing, walking like the other shoe still have a heel. 😀

I saw my dad’s car and waved and shouted like some lunatic woman but he couldn’t hear me. Good thing the traffic light turned red and he stopped at the intersection. I just ran towards the other side of the street where he was whilst I wave my hands like crazy to dad. I immediately got inside and told him what happened. LOL. We went back home so I can get another pair of shoes. Well if there was any pair of slippers/flip flops in the car, I would wear them to work. Or if there was already a shoe store that’s open that early, I would just buy. Oh well, just when I wanted to get to the office early….oh at least I got there at exactly 9am.

Dad told me to buy a new pair of shoes. I said, yes I will and that there is a sale in a mall today. But he told me, stop buying from Sale and to buy some nice shoes, don’t mind about how much it cost, just buy a nice and good pair so I won’t have another “mentos moment”. LOL.

I am actually really planning to shop for shoes and I was supposed to buy over the weekend. Well I guess I have a good excuse now to splurge on some pretty footwear. 🙂

(**Update: I just bought 3 pairs!)
