Beautiful Ones (Revisited)

2 Feb

Because tomorrow is Friday,  and what I’m going to share have no connection at all with tomorrow being a Friday, so in short I am just being crazy. LOL

I just miss the song “Beautiful Ones” by Suede, so I’m sharing it to people who visit this blog. Lyrics-wise,  it is nothing compared to the songs written by my favorite band ever – Jars of Clay! But I like the beat of the song. And this is one of those songs that reminds me so much of my teen years. 🙂

Beautiful Ones

High on diesel and gasoline, psycho for drum machine
Shaking their bits to the hits,
Drag acts, drug acts, suicides, in your dad’s suits you hide
Staining his name again,
Cracked up, stacked up, 22, psycho for sex and glue
Lost it to Bostik, yeah,
Shaved heads, rave heads, on the pill, got too much time to kill
Get into bands and gangs,

Oh, here they come, the beautiful ones, the beautiful ones

Loved up, Doved up, hung around, stoned in a lonely town
Shaking their meat to the beat,
High on diesel and gasoline, psycho for drum machine
Shaking their bits to the hits,

Oh, here they come, the beautiful ones, the beautiful ones.

You don’t think about it,
You don’t do without it,
Because you’re beautiful,
And if your baby’s going crazy
That’s how you made me,

La, la, la, la…

60 minutes (google images)

As of this posting, I only have 60 minutes left and the bomb will explode! Yay!

Posting this from some beach resort in Bohol Island, while sipping my late  night brewed coffee by the beach, with the beautiful live acoustic music playing in my background. LOVELY evening. Almost perfect – YOU are the only one missing tonight.

DJ Scotty and that sexy Scottish accent. :)

20 Aug

There is this popular song by a local artist about requesting a song to a DJ. But don’t worry, I won’t sing it. LOL. 🙂

Well, it’s been a while since I wrote about the little things to smile about. (I should be doing this every week as my way of counting my blessings instead of complaining. Exercise the gratitude muscle. 🙂 ) So, for the “Something to Smile About” this week or let’s narrow it down to today, I will talk about DJ Scotty.

DJ who?

DJ Scotty of Jam 88.3.

I’m not sure what percentage of an audience share Jam 88.3 has but I think they also have quite a lot of listeners. Well I’m not exactly loyal to one radio station, but Jam 88.3 is one of those I like to tune in to. (Although, I don’t listen regularly to the radio.) So there, one sleepy Friday afternoon while at work and getting bored writing test cases I decided to listen to the radio from my mobile phone to perk myself up.

So there’s the DJ talking non-stop and playing music in between his talk. “Right, too much blabbing,” I thought at first. But because of beautiful music being played, I stayed tune. I didn’t pay too much attention on the incessant talking; I was just concerned about the music that’s why I sort of regularly listen to them every afternoon especially on Fridays since they play 90’s music.

Then as it when on, I sort of noticed something different with this DJ –aside from noticing that he is quite smart, knowing a lot of things (trivia and gen. info), I started to notice his accent too. Nope, it’s not an odd accent and it’s actually some sort of a British accent or something similar to that.  However,  the accent is only obvious when he pronounces some words and when he speaks in Filipino, he’s just as good as the locals. And with the way he talks, I was guessing that he’s around early 20’s or even late teens…so I thought, who is this kid DJ trying to sound foreign?

So I Googled and found out and he is actually Scottish! Right! I went to Jam88.3’s website and they have this live video streaming that you could actually see the Jocks in booth.

I found out his name is DJ Scotty (or James Crawford is his ‘real life’). And he is not trying to sound foreign, he is actually one! He is from Scotland, and have the Scottish accent, hence he is nicknamed “Scotty” LOL.

Well,I have to admit, I love his accent! 🙂 I’m such a sucker for ‘accent’. I don’t know but it is just very appealing to me when I hear a man with a beautiful accent.

Then today, just out of the blue, as I was listening to another DJ (Roanna I think), I thought about checking out their site again and saw the text marquee about how to send a message to JAM88.3. So I thought about sending a request to play the song JUMPER by 3rd Eye Blind and maybe some The Corrs song and I did. However I attended a training in my office that lasted for about 2 hours so I didn’t know if DJ Roanna played my request. When I got back to my seat, it was already DJ Scotty’s turn. So I decided to send the request again and after a few minutes, while working on my task and singing along with my favorite late 90’s music, DJ Scotty played JUMPER!!! I knew it was the request that I sent via text, so I was so happy singing along with it. That song is just nice and it reminds me of one of my favorite movies- Yes Man.

Then after the song, DJ Scotty said that the song is actually for me! Yup! He mentioned my name “Y.” 🙂 Then he said, “And she (pertaining to me) said that she actually likes me. Thanks for the cute smiley face. The message just captured my attention.” Hahaha… While I wouldn’t deny that I really did send a message about liking (him) and that cute smiley emoticon, what I actually wrote was that, “Btw, I love your accent.”  But it just made me laugh when he said that I like him. LOL. 🙂

Here's the DJ with the accent - DJ Scotty.

So there you go the thing that made me smile and happy today – hearing my requested song on the radio and capturing the attention of DJ Scotty.

And oh, I must admit, he is cute (at least from the way I see him from the live video streaming) although he sort of looks like a ‘boy’. 🙂

Semi-Charmed Life Revisited

1 Aug

I love the late 90’s and early 2000’s music. I always think the music back then was a better than today’s. Lady Gaga? Katy Perry? Justin Bieber? Ewww! Not my type!

Late 90’s and early 2000’s was the era of the alternative rock, pop rock and boyband/girl bands. Who would forget Backstreet Boys, Boyzone, Spice Girls? What about bands like Hanson, Matchbox 20? Coldplay? Foo Fighters? Incubus? Korn? They sure ring a bell for those who were born in the early 80’s.  I’m sure many can relate about watching MTV during their teen years. But there’s a particular song of particular band I’d like to talk about.

Remember Semi-Charmed Life by 3RD Eye Blind?

“Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo Dooo….”

Familiar?

I always like that song. It’s upbeat, catchy and just sets you in a good mood.  I don’t remember the first time I heard it but I only remember liking it since it hit the radio.  I like the song too much I saved the mp3 in my computer and play it whenever I am in the good mood or want to be a good mood.

And although I very much know the chorus and a few lines in the verses, I didn’t pay too much with the lyrics. I just knew that there are some sort of depressing lines in the song despite its upbeat tune like  the “She’s got her jaws now locked down in smile but nothing is alright” and the “The four right chord can make me cry.”  But I was just too caught up with the catchy tune that makes me want to dance or bang my head a little. And it’s only lately when I actually decided to take a look at the lyrics because I feel challenge upon memorizing the sung-like-a-rap-song verses and sing a long with it.  I even listed “Memorize Semi-Charmed Life song” as one of the items under my 1000 Things To Do Before I Die.

So I googled the song… and I was shocked! The catchy and upbeat song I love talks about SEX and DRUGS (METH)! And it took me more than a decade to actually know it! How LAME! So all along, I was singing about doing METH and raunchy SEX?

Well I knew some parts of the song is about sex and some verses talk directly about doing meth (“doing Crystal Meth will lift you up until you break”), but I didn’t know the song was entirely dedicated to those two.  My interpretation was then strongly confirmed by the video from 2008 that I found in youtube, with Stephan Jenkins, Third Eye Blind’s lead singer, actually admitting that it is a dirty song! Watch the video below:

Oh well, I’m almost done memorizing it (I just need to brush up a little), so maybe I can cross it out from my 1,000 things. But still, I’m still in shocked how it took me more than 10 years to actually know what the song means.

Here’s the video with the lyrics:

Cuteness! Yes, I’m still a fan. 🙂

Jars of Clay & Hanson-“WELL:DONE”

3 May

I was surprised to see this poster on the Facebook wall of Jars of Clay:  Hanson will be joining them in one night of songs and stories! Woohoo!

I am just so excited to know it. Even though I won’t be able to watch it, I am just so happy to know that my two most favorite bands of all time -Jars of Clay and Hanson will be performing in one event!

Dubbed as “WELL-DONE Celebration” is a benefit event of stories and songs in Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on  May 10th, as Jars of Clay through BLOOD:WATER Mission celebrates the completion of the 1,000 Wells Project which was launched in 2005 for the communities in Africa, so they can have  access to clean and safe water.

I never thought it would happen – for my favorite bands to play in one night. Well both of them have been busy with their charities – helping people in Africa, but I never thought a collaboration like this would ever happen.  I love it! I love Jars’ music so much, I grew up listening to them…. and so Hanson, who reminds me so much of my younger years. 🙂

I wish I could watch them! 🙂 I’m thrilled.

And I have to say,

Jars of Clay and Hanson….

WELL:DONE!

Let’s Celebrate!

12 Gifts I’d Like To Receive Or Be Happy to Receive This Christmas

15 Dec

I made the list the other day just thinking of the things that I’d be happy to get this Christmas season. I didn’t give it much a thought, most of the things are just random stuff I had in mind… and it’s intended to be quite funny. I just want to make my friends and family laugh by putting up this list, however if they will take me seriously, I wouldn’t mind. hahaha!!!

In random order:

1. Books – CS Lewis books would be awesome. Okay, maybe the Eat, Pray, Love is also okay. Of course that “Buyology” book that I’ve been wanting to read. And maybe Bob Ong’s newest book “Ang Mga Kaibigan Ni Mama Susan” that’s very cheap, cost only about Php 150.

2. Notebooks/Journals – My Ate and I are “notebook/journal suckers.” We both love buying cute or nice-looking notebooks. We collect them, well I use some of them. Although since Starbucks Philippines have this yearly planner/journal promo that I’ve been joining for a few years already, I am using their journal despite that it robs me so much money to complete the stickers, not to mention that it’s one of the major causes why I need # 8 on this list. 🙂

3. Picture Frames – I remember when people usually frown or laugh after receiving picture frames during their “monito/monita” or during their “exchange gift” in their school or church or wherever. Picture frames are the least favorite item to be received. I think people usually expect something more useful or something they can bring along with them all the time, that’s why picture frame is not a favorite. But not me. I am collecting picture frames. I don’t know when I started collecting but I have a few picture frames already at home, most are still unused as I still have to sort the pictures I’d like to put in them. So cute picture frames will make me smile this Christmas! (Wooden or antique style frames would be great too!)

4. Post-It-Notes – I love the bright colors of the post it notes and they are very useful to me since I always make a list of my “To Do” things almost everyday. I hope I won’t have to put one on my forehead that says “Amnesia Girl.” 🙂

5. A Jars of Clay CD – Need I say more? I’m a Jars’ fan!

6. Gift CertificatesStarbucks Gift Certificates are the best! Well, yes, since I’m collecting stickers for their 2011 Journal. I still have 9 more stickers to complete until January 5, 2011 so SB’s gift certs are very much welcome.  Well, Ayala, SM or Rustan’s are also okay.

7.  A Huge Bag – It should be durable and fashionable. Well, DURABLE because I will put a lot of stuff in it – It’s going to be my 2nd house! FASHIONABLE because, nothing really, I just want it fashionable. 🙂

8. One-Year Supply of Diet Pills – LOL! Yeah, I may be kidding but if one will take me seriously, then I won’t say no. Hahaha…. I will gladly accept! LOL. Well seriously, I need to lose weight and I’m having a hard time.

9. DSLR – Well since I love picture frames, photos to be inserted to them are necessary, and a camera is necessary too.  You may say, a digital point and shoot camera will do. Yes it should but we already have one. Plus I want to take my photography to the next level.

10. New Mobile Phone – This one, not so much but since the phone I use already have scratches on it, then receiving a new one will be super nice.

11. Plane Ticket – Yes! To Singapore or HK! Or INDIA! Yes, definitely India. 🙂 Please?! Okay, Singapore and India then. 🙂

12.  Money – LOL! Well since it’s been a few months now since I quit from my job, and I have no other source of income aside from my fashion-jewelry-making hobby, my savings is running low. So for those of you who are thinking of doing charity work and thinking of sharing your blessings to the “poor and the needy”, I know a foundation – The “Y Antigo Foundation!” LOL! I will provide the bank account details to those with generous hearts.  🙂

Right! That’s it! What I’ve just listed were material things that may only give momentary happiness, but the real gift I’d like to receive this Christmas is LOVE. That I may be surrounded with love from people who loves me and people I care so much about.  🙂

PS. I wish you’re here 🙂
